Campaign for the release of independent trade unionists and political prisoners in Cuba

The wave of repression, which the Cuban government launched in March 2003, has resulted in the detention of 75 democratic dissidents, among whom nine trade unionists of the Consejo Unitario de Trabajadores Cubanos (CUTC), affiliated to CLAT and WCL. They were unjustly tried and condemned during quick, one-week trials.

These trade unionists are:

PEDRO PABLO ÁLVAREZ RAMOS

- Age: 57 years

- Sentence: 25 years

HORACIO JULIO PIŃA BORREGO

- Member of CUTC Province of Pinar del Río

- Age: 38 years

- Sentence: 20 years

VÍCTOR ROLANDO ARROYO

- Member of CUTC Province of Pinar del Río

- Age: 53 years

- Sentence: 26 ans

ADOLFO FERNÁNDEZ SAÍNZ

- Member of CUTC Province of Ville de La Havane

- Age: 56 years

- Sentence: 15 years

ALFREDO FELIPE FUENTES

- Delegate of CUTC Municipality of Artemisa Member of the provincial delegation of Pinar del Río

- Age: 55 years

- Sentence: 26 years

LUIS MILÁN FERNÁNDEZ

- Member of CUTC Province of Santiago de Cuba

- Age: 34 years

- Sentence: 13 years

BLAS GIRALDO REYES RODRÍGUEZ

- Membrer of CUTC Province of Sancti-Spíritus

- Age: 54 years

- Sentence: 25 years

OSCAR ESPINOZA CHEPE

- Economic adviser to CUTC

- Age: 65 years

- Sentence: 20 years

- Note: libération conditionnelle depuis juin 2004

CARMELO DÍAZ FERNÁNDEZ

- Membre de la direction nationale du CUTC

- Age: 67 years

- Sentence: 15 years

- Note: release on parole since June 2004
